TO BE CLEAR, NONE OF THIS IS PRESCRIPTIVE. THIS IS WHAT WORKED FOR ME, SOME, ALL, OR NONE OF IT MAY OR MAY NOT WORK FOR YOU. EVERYONE COMES INTO INFERTILITY WITH THEIR OWN SET OF ISSUES, SOME THAT CAN BE IMPROVED, SOME THAT CANNOT. I EMPATHIZE WITH ANYONE ON THIS JOURNEY. I WANTED TO PUT THIS TOGETHER AS A RESOURCE FOR PEOPLE TO LOOK INTO VARIOUS THINGS THAT MAY HELP THEM. ALWAYS CONSULT WITH YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE DOING ANYTHING.
I am not a doctor, I am in no way an expert in infertility or MFI, and none of this is meant to be medical advice. Nor do I present this as some kind of cure-all that will work for everyone, no such thing exists for any medical issue as everyone is different. My issues were apparently ones that could be improved… unfortunately this is not the case for everyone.
Second, the reasons I am writing this post are three-fold. The first is that throughout the 5 years of struggling with infertility issues, the male (me) has always been treated as an afterthought. I'm not a primadonna that craves attention but it just makes sense to TREAT BOTH OF US to try to maximize our results, and yet they rarely do. In our particular case, treating me would not guarantee success but it will likely help and surely can’t hurt. I have heard and read from others that they have had similar experiences with Fertility doctors. The second reason is that if I have learned anything from this entire process, it is that YOU MUST BE YOUR OWN ADVOCATE. There are good fertility doctors out there, and we eventually found one. But a lot of them are only concerned with their own prestige and their pregnancy rate. They view each couple as a potential win or loss to their record and not as individuals that need to be treated individually. Thus, if you don’t fit the mold of a potential win, you will be cast aside as to not tarnish their record. Lastly, I thought it would be helpful to people to provide a list of things they may want to consider that could possibly improve their semen parameters…per above, some, none, or all of this may or may not help you and may or may not be helpful to your particular issues. This is what I did and it worked for me, period.
Third, my SA Results and DNA Fragmentation results improved dramatically after instituting this regimen (the lifestyle stuff I was largely doing beforehand, but definitely not the supplement regimen). Our current doctor said, "I can't ever remember seeing such a drastic improvement in a semen analysis”. So while one guy taking a bunch of stuff he read about via studies on the internet is not the scientific method, I can at least anecdotally say that it worked for me. Some of it is more research backed than others, but I can assure you that all of it has some grounding in science and research.
My results over time:
June 2018:
Concentration: 11.1m/ml Total Motility: 51% Total Count: 66.6m Total Motile Sperm Count: 34m Normal forms: 4%
No SCSA conducted (why the hell not?!? See Second reason above. Was never even discussed with us.) In fact, even though these numbers aren’t necessarily horrible, they are far from ideal, and yet the doctor at the time waved it off as “everything looks good”. Thus, I didn’t even think to try to improve my numbers. This was followed by a failed IVF cycle.
Started doing a few lifestyle things (taking less NSAIDs, more regular sleep, walking more, but didn’t institute full regimen.)
After this, we switched doctors to our current doctor.
March 2019:
Concentration: 38m/ml Total Motility: 52% Total Count: 144.4m Total Motile Sperm Count: 75m Normal forms: 4%
SCSA: 39% (This is what caused me to start researching everything I could find on improving Semen parameters and reducing DNA Fragmentation)
It was at this point that the doctor even suggested a sperm donor due to the high Fragmentation percentage. I decided to take action to see if I could improve my numbers on my own.
Instituted Regimen end of 2019/early 2020 and have been on it to present. Bear in mind, I was also 3 years older at this point, and am no spring chicken to begin with, currently 38.
May 2021 (first test since instituting the regimen):
Concentration: 54m/ml (500% improvement from first test) Total Motility: 58% Total Count: 157m Total Motile Sperm Count: 157m (500% improvement from the first test) Normal forms: 4%
SCSA: 21% (not perfect, but shit is working! Almost a 50% reduction)
August 2021 (Wanted to be sure last test wasn’t a fluke):
Concentration: 53m/ml Total Motility: 64% (still trending upward) Total Count: 239m (still trending upward) Total Motile Sperm Count: 153m Normal forms: 5%
(At 38 years old, I am happy with these numbers and doubt I can get them much better. The consistent results at this point indicate to me that I have likely hit the ceiling or at least hit the point of diminishing returns.)
After the last two tests, the doctor is completely on board with us using my semen for our upcoming cycle.
Fourth, this is my first post, but I'd be happy to answer any questions people have about any of the supplements, etc.
Finally, the Guide. This contains everything that I did to improve my numbers.
PLEASE VIEW IT AS A LIST OF POSSIBLE THINGS FOR YOU TO LOOK INTO (LIFESTYLE CHANGES, SUPPLEMENTS) THAT MAY HELP YOU OR THAT YOU MAY WANT TO DISCUSS WITH YOUR DOCTOR.
I’m going to start with the obvious things that are pretty easy to figure out and pretty commonsense, then move to the supplement regimen which took a lot of research to put together. When I use the term “male health”, I mean anything that research has shown to lead to improvements in semen quality / DNA fragmentation either directly or through the body’s processes / hormones (reduced bodyfat %, testosterone, etc).
THE GUIDE:

  1. Exercise. Do it. But, I would skew your efforts towards cardio with weightlifting as a means for preserving muscle mass and testosterone levels. Healthy heart = healthy penis. A lot of male health is tied up in cardiovascular health, so don’t neglect cardio. I love lifting weights and hated doing cardio, but have now moved from lifting 4 times a week to lifting 2 times a week and running/sled pushing cardio workouts three times a week. My cardiovascular health has improved dramatically from 2019 when I barely did any cardio and just lifted weights. I was very lean and so didn’t feel the need to do cardio but looking healthy and being healthy aren’t the same thing and my cardiovascular health was not up to par. Research shows that cardiovascular health and low to medium intensity workouts are the best for male health. An easy way to start is walking 2-3 times a week. I also invested in a quality jumprope so I can easily step outside and knock out a 20-30 minute cardio workout. I have actually found that the increased in cardiovascular capacity has seemingly helped my lifting too…increased reps etc.
  2. Sleep. Make sleeping a priority. Adequate sleep is correlated with a million health benefits to include male health. This was a mental shift for me from hating to have to sleep to embracing every time I’m tired. Any time I feel tired now, no matter what time, the rule is that I drop what I’m doing and go lay down. Napping is a skill like anything else, and you have to practice it to get good at it even if that means just lying there for 20 mins and resting your mind. Your body will eventually learn to let you fall asleep. Also, go to bed and wake up around the same time every single day. I don’t need an alarm clock anymore after instituting this policy. Adequate sleep is arguably even more important than exercising for overall health parameters. Treat it the same way you would a new diet or exercise program. Attack sleeping with vigor.
  3. Meditate. This raises testosterone levels, who would have thought? There are a million ways to do this, play around with many and find one that works for you. Because I now wake up around the same time each morning, most mornings I meditate before getting out of bed. Think about nothing but your breath for 5-20 mins. Same as napping, it’s a skill, practice it.
  4. Fermented foods: Find fermented foods you like and will eat EVERY SINGLE DAY. I love sauerkraut and kimchi and there are some great grocery store brands of both. I could make some specific recommendations (Kefir is a standout for certain strains found in it), but at the end of the day, you need to be eating 2-3 servings of fermented food every day. Even when I travel, I find a grocery store and buy a bag of kimchi or sauerkraut and keep it in the hotel fridge. I generally take it as I would a supplement, eating several forkfuls prior to each meal.
  5. Intermittent Fasting: I’ve been doing this one for almost a decade but it has myriad health benefits to include male health. Look into it. I generally break my fast with the aforementioned serving of fermented food and then eat my first meal, then a small snack, then same fermented food + meal later. I more or less keep a 8-10 hr eating window, 14-16 hr fasting window.
  6. NSAIDS – Unless absolutely necessary (an acute injury), avoid nsaids. Research shows that nsaids can potentially cause hypogonadism. This effect can be seen from taking max doses daily for as little as a few weeks. There are other natural products out there to help with pain and inflammation that are worth looking into. The current research is not 100% clear, so everyone should make their own decision, but for me, I stopped popping ibuprofen or aleve unless absolutely necessary: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41585-019-0146-x
  7. Diet. I could probably write an entire book on diet recommendations but admittedly there are a lot of different ways to go about this. Think of your diet this way: Eating is taking medicine as many times a day as you eat. Instead of providing basic tips you can find anywhere, eat tons of fruits and vegetables, limit refined carbohydrates, etc. I’ll just provide a few less obvious tips on diet that I implemented.
a. Eggs (pasture raised so that you get the nutrition they are eating. Don’t believe me? Crack open some regular store bought eggs versus some farm or pasture raised eggs and take a look at the yolks…one is a light barely yellow, the other is a deep dark orangish yellow. Color is a pretty good universal indicator of the nutrition of something) and Fish (particularly fatty fish) are your friends.
I ate eggs (you want the yolks. I generally do 1 to 1 ½ cup of eggs consisting of 3-4 whole eggs and however much egg whites to get to that measurement) or a non lean fish (salmon, tuna, snapper) for at least one meal each day.
b. I switched out my fancy pink Himalayan salt for iodized salt. The fancy salts, which I love, only contain trace amounts of minerals aside from the sodium itself. Iodized salts contain…you guessed it!....IODINE. Iodine is important for male health and its not easy to get it from other sources.
c. Be promiscuous with fruits and veggies. As I said above, the more color, likely the better. I ate some combination of leafy greens (Arugula, kale, spinach), cruciferous greens (cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower), and berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries) at almost all of my meals. I generally eat either a large leafy green salad or oven roasted broccoli or asparagus with my protein and then have a fruit salad of mixed berries with cinnamon.
d. Fresh herbs are some of the most nutrient dense foods on the planet. I started an herb garden… it’s super easy and pays for itself in dividends. If you don’t have a green thumb, most grocery stores sell small containers of fresh herbs. I incorporate fresh herbs into every single meal I have, sometimes cooking with them, most of the time just sprinkling them on top. My triumvirate is always parsley (actually tastes amazing when it’s fresh), culantro (cilantro’s unrelated cousin), and basil. But occasional players are dill, oregano, etc.
THE MEDS
  1. I took Clomid, 25mg, every day. After conducting research on its potential efficacy, I discussed it with my doctor and he prescribed it. I was surprised that neither he nor any prior doctor ever even brought up the possibility of medication to increase my numbers. Definitely something to consider and discuss with your doctor. Some people need more, less, different frequency, etc., but I think it’s worth looking into and considering for everyone.
THE SUPPLEMENTS
On certain supplements, I provide the brand name of the one I take. This is because I either like this particular formulation (due to the mixture of ingredients and dosages) or because it’s a brand I trust due to long term efficacy (anecdotal again). Take it for what you will. I have zero association with any of these products. If you can find an alternative brand or your own source, have at it. Any dosage is going to be dependent on your size / metabolism / exercise regimen, etc. If you want to know how much in particular of anything I take, feel free to ask. Per above, these are what I took, but is by no means an all inclusive list of things to consider. Consider this a list of supplements you may want to consider / look into taking that may or may not help you. Some or all of these things may or may not be tolerated well by you or may cause side effects for you. Buyer beware.
  1. Iconic Formulations – Dermacrine - Topical DHEA with resveratrol, 7-8 benzoflavone, and Pregnenlone.
  2. N2 Generate ES – overall multivitamin. Key ingredients: Fadogia Agrestis 1.2 g, Fenugreek Extract 1.2 g, LJ100 Tongkat Ali extract 125mg, Mucuna pruriens extract 75mg, Magnesium 28mg, Zinc 7mg.
  3. Umzu Redwood - Key ingredients: Vitamin C, 1000 mg, L-Leucine, 75mg.
  4. Umzu Floracil – Probiotic - Key ingredients: Lactobacillus reuteri. I generally only take this on the days I don’t hit more than 2 servings of fermented foods. Good if you’re in a pinch or traveling. However, of all of the strains of live cultures, reuteri specifically has been shown to improve male health. Reuteri is generally not in yogurt, kimchi, or sauerkraut, but is present in Kefir. I recommend Lifeway Kefir. A word on probiotic supplements…the research is still out on the efficacy of these versus fermented foods. I see Floracil as an insurance policy if I don’t have access to fermented foods but would not want to rely on it. Find fermented foods you like.
  5. Biotest P-Well – Prostate Support, Urinary Tract Support. Key Ingredients: Punicaligans from wholefruit pomegranate extract 180mg, Lycopene 30mg, Cranberry whole fruit concentrate 500mg.
  6. Biotest Flameout – EPA & DHA – I dose this based on how much fatty fish I’ve eaten that day. This is the most concentrated source of EPA & DHA that I could find (it’s like krill oil and fish oil had a baby, named it Krish, and put that baby on steroids). Key ingredients: DHA 2,200 mg, EPA 880mg.
  7. Turmeric. Just make sure whichever brand you take includes black pepper extract for absorption. It exponentially increases absorption. Same thing goes for cooking with turmeric, always include black pepper. Turmeric is arguably the most powerful natural anti-inflammatory substance on the planet. Good thing to look into if your family has any kind of cancer history too.
Turmeric is also a natural ionophore that aids in the absorption of zinc, a crucial component for male health. It’s why I take it again at night when I take my zinc-magnesium compound.
  1. Creatine. Most people think of creatine as a bodybuilder supplement (which it is, in fact it’s probably the single most researched backed and proven bodybuilding supplement), but creatine is actually SO MUCH MORE. To try to put it simply, your body runs most of its cellular processes using Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and creatine helps your body make more of it. It has also been shown to be safe for long term use.
  2. D-Aspartic Acid. As we age, DAA naturally depletes and this can help anyone old like me or with naturally lower test levels return to baseline.
  3. Vitamin D – VITAMIN D IS A HORMONE, NOT A VITAMIN. I’ll repeat that. VITAMIN D IS A HORMONE, NOT A VITAMIN. And the vast majority of Americans are deficient in it. Imagine if you were chronically deficient in any other hormone. I fluctuate my overall intake based on sun exposure.
  4. Elysium Basis – Cellular Health. Key Ingredients: Nicotinamide Riboside 250mg, Pterostilbene (ground up pterodactyl parts, jk…it’s the primary polyphenol in blueberries). Research into human consumption of Nicotinamide Riboside is gaining traction each day. I cover my bases between this with my first meal and a Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMN) supplement with my second meal. The research is split on which formulation is best absorbed by humans when taken orally.
  5. Liposomal Glutathione – 700mg.
  6. FH Pro – general male health multi-vitamin. Key ingredients: Selenium 140mcg, L-Carnitine 2000mg, Coenzyme-Q10 200mg.
  7. Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMN). This is the only supplement on the list that must be kept in the fridge to preserve its integrity.
  8. Rootcha - Magnesium & Zinc Complex. This will help you get to sleep too, but be ready for some fun vivid dreams. Another magnesium supplement I like is Natural Calm, but it does not contain Zinc.
Abstinence Window:
This is something I have only recently started reading about. Def something to consider, especially if DNA fragmentation is an issue for you. The idea is that you shorten the amount of time that the sperm could be exposed to degradation, thus improving morphology and motility and reducing fragmentation. The basic premise; researchers have found that shortening the abstinence period from the typical recommendation of 2-4 days down to one day or even less (all the way down to 3 hours) can reduce DNA fragmentation and improve motility. There is usually a drop off in volume and concentration but it’s a tradeoff between quality and quantity. So for normal semen parameter testing, the results may look better if the abstinence window is longer, but for a Fragmentation test or IUI/IVF, you may be better off using a shorter window.
Once again, upon reading about this, I was dumbfounded that none of our doctors had ever even discussed this with me.

Per above, you may want to consider scheduling multiple semen analyses / SCSAs to figure out if reducing the abstinence window may benefit you. I.E. follow your doctor’s recommended time (generally 48-72 hours or 2 to 4 days) and see your results, then shorten it down to one day (24 hours) or even as short as 18, 12, 4, or 3 hours. More data points is rarely a bad thing either. I have a strong suspicion that the recommended window is going to be reduced as more research comes along.
When to take each supp: I have found that it didn’t feel good to take large amounts of supps on an empty stomach, but other than that, feel free to craft your own regimen that syncs with your eating habits and meal frequency.
Am I likely wrong about some of this or some of what I say above: Probably. I’m one guy doing internet research. If you want to kindly let me know that something doesn’t look right or point me to a study, etc, please do so. I’m always looking to learn more. But I have a full time job that isn’t this, so know that I have not read every single study, etc. To err is human. I would just hope this is a jumping off point for other guys to try to improve their semen parameters and hopefully provide some guidance on things they could look into that may help them. I am far from perfect and I’m sure this post is too.
What about Icing? I’ll be honest that I don’t know the first thing about icing. I didn’t use it myself but have read that other people have had great results with it. If someone knows something about this, feel free to chime in or point people to links, resources, posts that discuss this.
Final Thoughts: Aside from learning that I felt better taking supps with food, I have not suffered any obvious ill effects (this is to include multiple blood tests, serum levels, etc.) from taking these supps for over a year. However, some or all of this stuff could affect you negatively or could produce side effects. I jokingly say that if the stuff they make the supp tabs out of it, generally cellulose, causes cancer, I may be in for it, but at the end of the day, you are the arbiter for what goes in your mouth (insert obvious joke). My boyfriend is a VERY friendly but sometimes it's too much. He's a huge people pleaser & rarely says no to anyone. I think a lot of it stems from his mum making him think he always has to do what she says & he's just extended that obligation to anyone.
Recently we had a huge argument about this & now I feel like an A-hole. But I feel like something needed saying.
The other day, we got home, and started taking bags out of the car boot. One of my bf's neighbours leaned out of his window and shouted at my bf "here, let me I borrow your phone?" He was really rude about it and didn't even say please. But my boyfriend immediately said yes.
Just for some context, this neighbour doesn't know my boyfriend. He sees him around but thats it. They don't speak. Also, and I know this sounds incredibly judgemental, but this man is literal scum. He's a druggie, all the neighbours detest him, he constantly calls for ambulances for no reason then attacks the paramedics? So now an ambulance will only come if there are police present. He is absolutely awful and just someone I would never associate myself with.
So when my bf agreed, I without skipping a beat said very sternly "NO". The neighbours replied "its alright love, I aint gonna hurt him or owt." So this is how the rest of the conversation went;
Me: the fact you have to assure me you aren't going to hurt him kind of tells me you're a violent person. Ask to borrow someone else's phone. Its not our problemGuy: I only wanna borrow his phone, it'll take 5 minutesMe: we dont even know youGuy: so?Me: tell you what, you can borrow MY phone if you can even tell me his fucking name (I only said this because I knew he didn't know my bf's name)
But my bf just walked over to the guys house, so I said "what are you doing?" He said he felt bad for the guy. I explained that I didn't want him going in a mans house who is clearly violent and basically a stranger. Him not having a phone isn't our issue. Plus, my boyfriend has a very expensive phone & I wouldn't have put it past this guy to lose his shit and smash it up or something.
I said to my bf "You don't have to blindly say yes to everyone." But he ignored me. He was in the guys house for almost an hour. All he wanted to do was ring his friend, nothing urgent. When my boyfriend came back home I said "I dont know why you would associate yourself with someone like that, let alone help him." My bf kept saying he felt sorry for him? I told him that this guy is a criminal (he assaults emergency service workers regularly? why would ANYONE sympathise with him?) and he's also a blatant user since he was happy to use a strangers phone that long and didn't even say please or thank you.
I said to my boyfriend "I understand that you want people to think your nice but in some situations you come across more naive than nice. You need to learn to stick up for yourself and say no once in a while".

2021.09.19 16:22 static416 Aggression and marking getting worse and worse

Had my cat his whole 13 yrs, and he was always a bit aggressive, even when young.
Starting about 4 years ago, for various complicated medical reasons, his testosterone started ramping up even though he's fixed, and it's manifested as increased aggression and territorial marking around the house.
These events started out rare, but are now almost daily. He attacks me and the other cat and pees randomly around the house. He wakes me up every night between 3 and 5 am numerous times with yelling and threatening to mark on the furniture.
The urination is not stress or cleanliness, he's clearly marking territory.
Not really sure what to do at this point. We've spent thousands of dollars on many vets, and there is no solution they can suggest short of extremely expensive surgury that's more likely to kill him or do nothing, than it is to fix the issue.
On top of everything else, his kidneys are now also failing, possibly due to all the drugs he's on.
It feels like euthanasia is the only option at this point. Any suggestions?

2021.09.19 16:22 Uitvinder Synology drive client won't start on laptop

Well here I am back with a question. The app Synology drive client on my laptop won't start after u used it a while. I have the newest version compatible with DSM 7. I removed the app end reinstalled it but no better result. The strange is that when I make a new extra (test) account on my laptop, the app will start and I can fill in my credentials on that account and not with my main account. With my normal account (admin), I see a flash of a window that shows that Synology drive client starts. But than flash it a way. And no sing of it later. Not in task manager and not in the right below the datum and clock sign. ( I have no hidden icons)
So what's next?
My nas type is ds1821+. Drive client is version, 3.0.1

Was thinking as a biggest Crypto community on the planet, can we make a difference? Can we solve this problem of misinformation? Apparently, yes we can! Here is how:

We encourage community members to make videos with high quality standards. There will be community members for helping with the topics but not limited to. 1. Cinematography. 2. Editing 3. Screenplay 4. Copyright/Legal 5. Storyline review etc..
Once the Video is ready, user will upload it to one of the content stream platforms (Each user can create maximum of 3 videos per week). As soon as the video is uploaded, it will be in the “Ready for Review” status.
From the Admin side:
We can conduct a voting in our subreddit to see who would like to take which role. Assume that there will be 1000 Cinematographers, 1000 editors 100 Legal/Copyright advisors etc .. you get the idea right?
We can combine everyone and give a unique Nonce (Random number but once).
Every-week we can have a simple algorithm that decides which are the Nonce numbers that are assigned for the incoming video review. There will be 5 groups that will review. Each group contains 100 members. They provide the feedback incase if they think the video is not unto the mark.
Every time a reviewer starts to review it the status get changed to “In Review” for him/her alone, Once the review is completed the count will be keep track with the result “Go” or “No- Go” in the respective group.
There will be a cut off time for the review like it should get reviewed in less than 4 hours.
As soon as we reach 50 “Go”s in a single group out of 100 then the group review will be marked as complete and it will be marked with “Go” or “No-Go”
After all 5 groups are done with the review, we see what’s the maximum consensus reached, example if 3 groups say “Go” and 2 groups say “No-Go” then the final result will be “Go”.
If the final consensus is “Go” then Video will be available fo the consumers to be able to stream/watch.
If the final consensus is “No -Go” video will be rejected and the feedback will be shared with the creator. If creator wants to re-sumbit it then the whole process has to be repeated.
Rewards: To reward content creator and other supporters, MOON will be used. 1. For every successful reviewed video X number of MOONs will be rewarded. X is a variable, it can get adjusted depending on the demand. 2. 60% of X will be distributed to the creator. Creator is supposed to include all the supporter details into the video meta data. 3. 25% of X will be distributed to the supporters. 4. 15% will be distributed to the reviewers that reach the majority consensus (3 groups from above example). 5. We can parter with Netflix, Apple TV+, Disney, Amazon Prime Video etc.. for hosting our videos.

I’m doing Law (SH) and when I checked the orientation timetable online on the TCD website, it said that orientation is running from 20th - 24th and that teaching begins on 27th. However, on the Trinity Live app, it says that I have Constitutional Law 1 from 1pm - 2pm tomorrow.
Also a lot of the events like “Welcome & Introduction to the Law School” are timed differently than on the website. It says people with surnames A-L go from 1-2 on the website and then it says 12-1 on the app.
Anyone know what the story is with that?

I never had much money growing up, so much of my time spent on life was on free activities, clubs, fairs, in school, and family, of course. Naturally, as I've grown older, those same mentalities have stuck around. While I'm doing okay for myself, not great, I still feel the need to penny pinch or work additional hours if I can.
That being said, I'm not dating or looking for a relationship. But say I was. Is a man who's frugal to the core, something that is frowned upon? Is that celebrated in this day and age?
