SEC Tacitly Approves First Bitcoin Futures ETF

(Reuters) – The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is poised to allow the first U.S. bitcoin futures exchange-traded fund to begin trading next week, Bloomberg News reported on Thursday ... Crypto Some investors are taking this SEC tweet as a signal that a bitcoin futures ETF could get approval imminently Last Updated: Oct. 14, 2021 at 10:51 p.m. ET First Published: Oct. 14, 2021 at ... Today, trading volume for Bitcoin futures on CME rose by 7.49%, which may help explain why the price of Bitcoin jumped by 8%. Whether this run will continue and the SEC really does green-light the first crypto ETF in the States is still anyone’s guess. But we’ll only need to wait 12 more days to find out. The United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has received another ETF application, adding to its growing list. This time, VanEck has filed a futures-based Ethereum ETF, called the Ethereum Strategy ETF. This follows a bitcoin futures prospect strategy that was submitted to the SEC.. VanEck is well known in the market for its bitcoin ETF applications. (Bloomberg) -- The Securities and Exchange Commission is poised to allow the first U.S. Bitcoin futures exchange-traded fund to begin trading in a watershed moment for the cryptocurrency industry ... If the SEC does allow the futures ETFs, it will be the first Bitcoin-tied ETFs approved in the U.S., though ETFs tied to futures contracts are still not quite the pure Bitcoin ETF that crypto investors have hoped to see. Still, it's seen as a first step toward mainstream adoption. U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman Gary Gensler says he is open to exchange-trade funds (ETFs) for Bitcoin futures. While speaking at the Future of Asset Management North America Conference on Wednesday, Gensler told attendees that his staff will be reviewing a number of recent cryptocurrency-related ETF filings. Unlike bitcoin ETF applications that the regulator has previously rejected, the proposals by ProShares and Invesco are based on futures contracts and were filed under mutual fund rules that SEC ... So I just tried the new Combat Assault Rifle, here are my thoughts.
The accuracy is surprisingly good, I hit a majority of my shots with it, but I think it's fire rate is a tad too fast, almost SMG speed.
The gun is amazing, the only thing I would change, is just bring down the fire rate just a smidge.

2021.10.16 10:42 Bagolyvagymi The worst part of being a producer is not being able to tell if I just came up with my best melody so far or it is just a random song I listened to a week ago

So there is no silence in my brain whatsoever, a song is always playing in there, but I just can't decide if I have an existing song's melody in my head or it is something I actually came up with in my head. I listen to so many different new songs every day that there is no way for me to know if they really do exist. The scary part is sometimes I even know what type of sound it uses. If I have the chance I try to record them into my phone by whistling

2021.10.16 10:42 adacomb Recycling memory for arrays with different element types

I have a array of float which I wish to cast to std::int16_t. The obvious way to achieve this is of course to use, e.g. a std::vector for the original array, and then std::copy() into a std::vector.
But in my specific application, the array sizes are quite large - several gigabytes - and it would be a very nice optimisation to be able to save memory here. After the cast, the original float array is no longer needed, so I wondered if it is possible to avoid allocating one of the arrays and doing the cast in-place.
To achieve this it would seem to me like we have to somehow convert the memory of a float in the array into a std::int16_t. Now I know this is not something the C++ Standard "likes": aliasing memory locations with different types is generally not permitted and it's very easy to create undefined behaviour.
I have three ideas about this so far, but would welcome some feedback and other ideas from anyone who is more knowledgeable.
One idea is using reinterpret_cast to cast the float* to a std::int16_t* and then copy as normal. But this will result in undefined behaviour upon access via the pointer (although I'd expect common compilers on, say, x86, would allow it and produce the expected behaviour, but I would prefer to not rely on it).
Another idea that may have worked in C is using an array of unions of float and std::int16_t[2] (assuming float is 32-bit) to legally switch between the element types. However I do not believe this is well-defined behaviour in C++. Also I would prefer not to have to change the type of the array.
My final, and more plausibly legal, idea, is to destruct a float element (ending the lifetime of the float object), cast its memory location to void*, then use placement-new to construct a new std::int16_t object in the same memory location. But I am not sure on the technicalities of the legality of this method.

Luchiano Lewis, 16, was sentenced to 9 years to life in prison for his role in the 2019 fatal stabbing of 18-year-old Barnard College student Tessa Majors, whose violent killing in a Manhattan park left the community reeling.
Lewis pleaded guilty last month to second-degree murder and first-degree robbery.
The judge, Robert Mandelbaum, called it a "tragic and senseless case" where a young woman's life was taken "before she even had a chance to live" according to a tweet from NBC New York reporter Myles Miller, who was in the courtroom Thursday.
The sentencing range indicates Lewis will spend nine years at minimum in prison, and after that, a parole board will determine when he is released.
"On December 11, 2019, the hopes and dreams for our daughter Tess came to a tragic end" her family wrote in their victim impact statement that was read out in court. "Our hearts ache as we watch Tess's friends return to school, perform concerts, start new jobs, and experience all the things that our daughter never will."
Prosecutors played a surveillance video of Majors' final moments as she fell face down on the street after being stabbed.
Before he was sentenced, Lewis told the court, "I don't come here before you today as a boy, but as a human... I am here today to accept my penalty."
"Dad, I'm sorry that I failed you" he added.
Lewis was one of three teenagers charged in Majors' killing during an armed robbery attempt in Morningside Park. He was 14 at the time but was charged as an adult.
One of the other teens, who was 13 at the time of the killing, was tried as a juvenile. He pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree robbery last year and was sentenced to 18 months in detention, the New York Post reported.
The third teen, Rashaun Weaver, who prosecutors said wielded the knife, has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and robbery. His trial date is expected to be set next (...)
